The City has scheduled an emergency Common Council meeting for Monday, June 9, 2025, at 6:00 PM. This is the second emergency meeting within a week, prompted by a minor change requested by the State Legislature to our deficit financing bill currently under consideration.
Purpose of the Meeting
The Common Council will vote on Addendum C, an updated resolution reflecting a date change to the deficit financing bill. Each amendment to the bill requires a new bill number and a corresponding vote by the Council to ensure compliance with legislative processes. This meeting will address the transition from Addendum B to Addendum C, and no other city business will be discussed.
Why the Emergency Meeting?
With the State Legislative session ending on June 12, 2025, time is critical. The New York Open Meetings Law allows exceptions to standard public notification requirements in emergencies where delays could significantly disrupt city operations. Without this vote, the City risks missing the opportunity to secure vital deficit financing, which could have serious financial consequences for 2025 and beyond.
